Cool Hunter again...

"Dupli Casa, a private residence by the Neckar river, near the old town of Marbach in South- Western Germany, is a wonderful example of connection and fluidity. It connects the inside with the outside, up with down, air with ground and — most cleverly — past with present and even future."

India is fascinating me...

This is Mumbai's Blue Frog, a 1,000-square-meter complex that includes a club, restaurant, lounge, sound stage, recording studio and sound lab.

Check their website!

For cinema lovers...a little bit of colour!

That's what they say:

"Light House Cinema is committed to championing films of quality from original, creative film makers.

We passionately support cultural diversity and personal expression in world cinema.

Our aim is to firmly establish Light House Smithfield as a springboard for wider distribution of independent, world cinema in Ireland."

Cool!

No way it is a bank in Milan...

Blindness, actual posters

As I said in a previous post, while I was at VFS I did some "pre-posters" for the movie Blindness, directed by Fernando Meirelles. The idea was to create a campaign that would call attention for the movie...

My first idea was to create a "blind" event, but then I realized the movie is NOT about "playing with our senses" but actually about "not trusting our eyes", so I came-up with a poster campaign.

Today I decided to research what they did to promote the movie and I found a similar "pre-campaign" with black and white posters, using tag lines about blindness:

Then, I thought it would be interesting to see their final poster for the movie and it was a surprise to me hos similar it was to my first mood board.

They are kind of smoky and it is tag line also focuses in questioning the way we "see/understand" the world. My first moodboard also had this dreamy atmosphere and it was hard to let it go, but my classmates considered it too creepy, with a "ghost" connotation, and I had to agree with them!

But, funny as it is, the oficial poster decided to go "creepy"! It is easier to brand, I think, but they might attract some teenagers looking for some horror movie, instead of a bit smarter audience...

The movie itself, despite the obvious exaltation of the woman, is actually quite depressing. However, even if you don't like to watch movies that come from novels, the way it is constructed makes the ride worthy.

If you want to compare it with my posters, you can see mine and my case study at my portfolio under "print", "blindness" or in this blog.

I'll end this post with my favorite one:

Green on Type on Focus magazine!

I received great news from Jeff Morris this month. He had written about DD09's project ABCs-of-typography at vfs's blog, so he interviewed some of the students and I was among them. Now, as his editor really liked the story, it is part of this month's VFS magazine, In focus.

I am very proud, not only because of Robin Mitchel compliments, but also because my work is just beside the book produced by a friend of mine whose work I really admire, Everardo!

Just to remind you, the book "Green on Type", ranges from green to pink as the reader learns about type. It is a collection of illustrations produced by DD09 and our challenge was to put the book together, from A to Z, making it cohesive somehow.
